Background

While attending college, John worked at IBM, where he received sales training and experience as a marketing associate. When he discovered he had an aptitude for working with one of IBM’s toughest law firm customers, he knew that he would one day become a lawyer himself. Upon graduation, he received a management position with Cahners Exposition Group (a Reed Publishing company) where he gained useful operations experience before attending law school.

In 1992, John joined the law firm, Clausen Miller, P.C., as a summer associate attorney in Chicago, Illinois.  He continued to work for Clausen Miller throughout his final year of law school, and was made a full-time associate in 1993. At Clausen Miller, John represented plaintiffs in complex tort litigation in both state and federal court, in cases involving fire, explosion, injury and product liability.

In 1997, John established the Law Offices of Stime & Malm, Wheaton, Illinois, concentrating his litigation practice in bodily injury and wrongful death cases. John was selected as litigation counsel in one of the largest contested estates in Du Page County, In Re the Estate of Ann L. Cuneo.

In 2001, the Law Offices of John J. Malm, P.C. was established. The firm opened its brand new offices in Naperville in 2003. The Naperville law firm proudly serves its clients in DuPage County and Kane County as a results-oriented personal injury law firm representing individuals and families who have suffered an injury or loss due to an accident.

Professional Philosophy

John is dedicated to seeking justice for his clients with a commitment to preserve civility in the practice of law, believing that civility is the foundation of a well-functioning civil justice system. "I work hard to carefully prepare my cases to win, but along the way I do my best to treat others -- including my opponents -- the way I would like to be treated. It is a simple philosophy, but one that is admittedly hard to follow at times. Even in the most difficult cases with the most challenging opponents, I know that adherence to the 'golden rule' has served my clients well."

Pro Bono Activities

John accepts pro bono assignments as a member of the Trial Bar in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
